Takin' it to the streets...

The 5k is in 3 weeks and I'm going to be real honest:
I AM FREAKING OUT.

I run pretty well on the treadmill. I think it has a lot to do with the fact that I listen to a lot of rap music.
The louder and angrier it is the longer I run.
I just envision Eminem chasing me and it seems to do the trick.

But I'm worried that when the race comes I will be a hot hot mess.

Here are my main concerns:

1. When I run I look like a fool.
When I'm in the confines of the gym I can kind of get away with the fact that it looks like I'm about 3 steps away from the light.
But on the streets?
That's where it gets real.
There are people driving by who I'm pretty sure will be legitimately concerned that I am either running from the cops or about to have the "big one" and keel over on the side of the road.
My friend Colleen who writes the "Lunchbox Diaries" said she feels like people are staring and I couldn't agree more.
I'm scared.
Real scared.

2. As I have mentioned before Harrisonburg is full of hills that are surrounded by mountains. I've been running on flat ground.
These hills are no joke.
And although I have bucked the JMU system by taking the elevator instead of the stairs that is not in option in the outdoors.
There are no elevators.
Trust me.
I'm googled it.

3. What if this happens:

4. Also previously stated I pack my playlist with some pretty sweet jams which occasionally cause me to dance.
I don't know if the streets are ready for this jelly.
I feel that I could just be taken over by the music and just start something like this:

I can't make promises that won't happen.
I could cause accidents with my moves.

5. I've been running for 2 - 2.5 miles and I'm petrified of what will happen when I do 3.2.
With that I'm scared that my race time will be over an hour.
Or even longer and everyone packs up and goes home and I don't get my cupcake or a ride.
OR that I will get lost on the course and up running
across the country like Forrest Gump.
After writing that I pictured myself with the same long scraggly beard he developed.

Oddly enough that's what my hair looks like before I straighten it.
Sexy right?

I know some of my friends are fabulous and fit and any suggestions on how to prepare would be appreciated.

Thanks for sticking with me through this mini panic attack.

And have a fantastic dayyyyyyyy!

WE HAVE THE SAME LAST NAME!

As many (if not all) of you are aware
I
am
awkward.

I creep on people.
I feel real feelings for television characters.
I robot in and out of situations if I don't know how to act.

It's pretty amusing for my friends...pretty mortifying for me.
However, it has become my trademark so I go with it.

Recently I struck again.

Just a recap:

I'm a grad student (gross right?) and I have an assistantship as a hall director for a first year residence hall.
Because of my job I get to call campus police from time to time.
Usually the cops they send over are guys that are older and have some sort of mustache or male pattern baldness.
Which I'm OK with.
 They are my crowd.
I joke with them, we get along.
Sometimes I get candy.

Ok that's a lie but I think they should carry some in their cars.
Sometimes I get low blood sugar.....or hungry.
All I'm saying is that it'd be convenient.

On this particular day they sent:

Officer Jones.

Now if it had been some old dude named Officer Jones I would've said
"Hey that's my last name too! Now get this hoodlum resident up out of here."

Again that's a lie my residents aren't hoodlums. The cops usually come for fire drills.
I just like to sound tough.

Instead they send the most attractive man I've seen in awhile.
He's like a skinnier version of the Rock.

So instead of my usual
"Hey cool last name. Got any candy?" conversation
it went something like this:
(please read in a very high pitch tone)

"HEY UM...HEY I'M ASHLEY JONES.
WE HAVE UM THE LIKE SAME LAST NAME AND UM.
 I'M THE HALL DIRECTOR.
I'M EMBARRASSED...I DIDN'T KNOW THEY WERE SENDING YOU OVER..
I'M IN MY PAJAMAS...THIS IS AWKWARD HA...YOU KNOW LIVING WHERE YOU WORK AND ALL YOU JUST GET COMFORTABLE...
BUT UM HA LIKE I UM. YEAH SO...SAME LAST NAME THAT'S CRAZY RIGHT?
WHAT ARE THE ODDS? OH BOY.
WHY ARE YOU HERE AGAIN? AM I STILL TALKING?
DID I BLACK OUT? "

If you've ever been around me when an attractive male is around my voice gets really high. Like decibels only dogs can hear.

I get so incredibly nervous around good looking people that I literally melt down.
I ramble.
I sweat.
I make awkward jokes.
I immediately hate my outfit and convince myself boogers are hanging out of my nose because that's the kind of luck I have.

After I came back to reality I realized that not only was it inappropriate for me to throw my underwear and bra at him like I did at the last *NSYNC concert, but should probably take care of the incident at hand.

Luckily he didn't seem to freaked out but he's a cop he can't show fear.
I thought that would be last time I would see him.

Fast forward to 5 days later.
Long story short a couple of my friends and I got locked out of a building and needed a campus cadet to come help us out.

I was all business on the phone.
Very professional
(Hard to imagine but true)

After 25 minutes of waiting in the cold I flagged down a passing police car.
Who got out of the car?
OFFICER JONES.

Whatever professional courtesy I had with the dispatcher on the phone was long gone.
I'm pretty sure I  RAN towards him and said the following:

"OFFICER JONES! HEY IT'S ME ASHLEY JONES THE HALL DIRECTOR!
UM HA FUNNY THING SEEING YOU HERE!
WHAT ARE THE ODDS?
WHAT?
NO I KNOW I FLAGGED YOU DOWN...UM SO...WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO UNLOCK THE BUILDING?
MAYBE INFORM ME OF WHAT YOUR RELATIONSHIP STATUS WOULD BE SHOULD YOU PUT IT ON FACEBOOK?
DID I MENTION MY LAST NAME WAS JONES?
IMAGINE ALL THE PAPER WORK I WOULDN'T HAVE TO FILL OUT SHOULD WE EVER DECIDE TO GET MARRIED!"

That last part may have not been said aloud but it was most certainly thought.

I don't know what is happening but I'm raging out of control.
The older I get the less acceptable it is for me to be out in public.
This man is an officer of the law.
I need to show him respect.
Understand that he has a job to serve and protect our students.

However sometimes,

I do imagine him interrogating individuals (perps if you will) and giving them the "eye brow."

Or like jumping off the top of buildings onto escaping students...who, I don't know, knocked over the on campus Quiznos.

(I watched a lot of Lock Down & Gangland over break...)

All I'm saying is that if any of you get a phone call from a restricted number, answer it as it might be me asking for you to come get me from Campus Jail.

Campus Jail is also known as County Jail.

Woof.
I am a single monster.

Look.Out.

I can now never write a ransom note because my sample of writing is out for all to see.
So I'll have to resort to cutting out letters from magazines when I kidnap whatever famous person I'm in the mood to make my boyfriend.
This week's top pick:
Jason Aldean.

If you play the HW Game Pahhhleaseee let me know .
